• Create a homesteader, move onto a rural lot, and apply the **Off-the-Grid** lot trait in Build Mode (it removes power and water entirely).
• Build Mode → Lot Traits → add **Off-the-Grid**.

The Off-the-Grid trait is base-game, so a reduced version is playable with no DLC — you just lose Seasons' weather stress and Cottage Living's farm animals, leaning on gardening, fishing and foraging instead.

• Cottage Living animals (chickens, cows, llamas) turn into eggs, milk and wool — a renewable food and income base that survives winter.
• Spend autumn **preserving**: canned produce and stored goods are what carry you through the frozen months.
