๐ The story
You control exactly one Sim in a house of eight โ and the other seven do whatever they please, all day, every day. Your job is to keep your head (and theirs) and complete your goals amid total free-willed chaos, on a shoestring budget, in a deliberately rickety home. It is the iconic hands-off challenge, and it is gloriously hard.
๐ The goal
Control **one Sim** in a household of **eight** and complete a set number of aspirations (**2 easy / 3 medium / 4 hard**) while keeping the seven uncontrollable housemates alive.

๐ก Setup
๐ Getting started
- Create eight unrelated young adults, all with the **Erratic** trait (formerly "Insane"). One is your controllable Sim; you may never direct the other seven. Build a sparse, cheap home.
- Money cheats are allowed **only** to build/furnish the home; turn max **free will on**.
โจ๏ธ Cheats to type
testingcheats true๐ General rules
- You control only your main Sim โ never click or direct the other seven; their high free will runs everything they do.
- Furnish with the **cheapest** objects only; no items that boost emotions (unless earned as career rewards) and nothing that prevents fires.
- Limited beds, seating and skill objects (tighter on harder modes).
โจ Specific rules
- Your main Sim completes 2 / 3 / 4 aspirations (by difficulty) to "earn their freedom." Certain long or household-dependent aspirations are banned (Successful Lineage, Big Happy Family, Super Parent, Fabulously Wealthy, Mansion Baron, City Native).
- Income comes from selling your main Sim's creations (paintings, books, collectibles); the uncontrollable Sims may only work the low-paying Criminal career, and you can't manage their progress.
- A **curfew** limits leaving the lot, and you must travel with all eight; when a housemate dies, you remove seats/beds per the mode.
โ What you can do
- Use money cheats for the initial build only; turn free will to maximum.
- Make an 'Asylum' Club of the eight (Get Together) to nudge group behaviour; earn money from the controllable Sim's sold creations.
โ What you can't do
- Control only your main Sim โ never click or direct the other seven.
- Cheapest furniture only; no emotion-boosting objects (unless career rewards) and nothing that prevents fires.
- Banned long/household aspirations (Successful Lineage, Big Happy Family, Super Parent, Fabulously Wealthy, Mansion Baron, City Native); a curfew limits leaving, and you travel only with all eight.

๐ฎ If you don't own the packs
Fully base-game. Many players run a kinder reskin (a chaotic shared house or group home) โ the mechanic underneath is simply controlling one free-willed Sim among eight.
๐ก Strategy tips
- Put a money-making skill object (the easel is the classic) front and centre โ it's your only reliable income while you babysit chaos.
- Fire safety matters: cheap stoves plus no fire-prevention allowed means cooking is genuinely dangerous โ build cooking skill fast or lean on no-cook food.
- Make an **Asylum club** (Get Together) of just the eight so you can at least nudge group behaviour through club activities and perks.

๐ฅ Want it harder?
- Play **hard mode**: four aspirations, all-negative lot traits, no hired help, the tightest furniture limits.
- Forbid the easel-and-sell economy and survive on gardening alone.
๐ Scoring
A classic optional system rewards **speed and survival**: points for skills, friends and aspiration points; minus points for every day spent inside and a heavy penalty for each housemate who dies. Fewest days, everyone alive = the best score.
๐ญ Variations
The "compassionate" group-home reskin, or a "Big Brother" cousin where you narrate weekly elimination drama instead of chasing aspirations. ---
A community classic that dates back to The Sims 2; the original Sims 4 author is uncredited, but the widely-used ruleset (easy/medium/hard) circulates on the EA forums. ยท Last tested: Patch 1.108 โ Feb 2026
